Sadhak Bamakhyapa

Sadhak Bamakhyapa who is considered to be the avatar of shiv was born in Atla village in Birbhum district of West Bengal on the year 1837. He was a great sadhak and a devotee of the divine mother(Inform of Ma Tara). He became a master in Tantra sadhana under his guru Kailashpati. Bamakhyapa did not used to follow the written practices or methods to worship the divine mother but instead worshipped her as her own mother son relationship in human form. Due to this the temple members got angry and decided to evict Bamakhypa from the temple of Tarapith, but Ma Tara herself appeared in a vision to the queen Rani Bhabani and told to feed her son Bamakhyapa or else she will leave Tarapith. From this onwards no one dared to cause any harm or obstruct Bamakhypa.

Once one of his shashan shongi(assistant in worship) was sleeping in night in the room were Bamdev used to stay in Tarapith; He was woken up by the several bite of the mosquitoes. He tried to kill the mosquitoes in order to sleep., but to his surprise Bamakhypa was sitting across the room and was chanting the divine mother's name. he saw that several mosquitoes were around Bamakhyapa but no one was biting him. he asked bamakhyapa about this. he said listen carefully the mosquitoes are also chanting the divine mothers name, the universal sound. The mosquitoes were also in the union in sadhana with the sadhak so they did not bite him. Such was the greatness and renunciation of Bamdev.

Once Debendranath Thakur went to visit Bamdev and Bamakhyapa said to him that while returning home he will see a chatim tree in an empty field, under that you will find peace. later on that place an ashram was built and Shantiniketan was formed. Swami Vivekananda along with Sarat Chandra Chakravarty visited Bamakhyapa where he predicted Vivekananda will be a great face of religion. Also Rabindranath Thakur along with Mukunda Das visited Tarapith; where they waited for the whole day to get a glance of Bamakhyapa, Bamdev came and said to Mukunda to throw away his gun, actually Mukunda was carrying a gun hiding under his dress. He said to Rabindranath that he will become famous and recognized.
