Pannalal Bhattacharya

Even if ages after ages pass by, he will still be in our hearts just like a panna stone shines. His divine voice creates a feeling of divine love for the mother. He is not only a singer but a Matri Sadhak.

Still now, without his songs the puja for the divine mother is incomplete in Bengal. He is none other than Pannalal Bhattacharya.

He was born in the year 1930 in a town named Bali in Howrah district of West Bengal. His father died when he was still in his mother's womb. His mothers name was Annapurna Devi, and Pannalal was one of 11 children.

Pannalal was raised by his brother. With the help of his brother he got a chance to record a music at megaphone studios, This song was named " Ma Amar Sadh Na Mitilo". After this a series of bhakti geeti for the divine mother was sung by Pannalal including " Bhebe Dekh mon keu karor noi" , " Chai na mago raja hote" , " amar mayer paye joba hoe" , " shokoli tomari ichha" . Such was his devotional power that K. Mallick(one of best known Shyama Sangeet singers) cried and hugged pannalal during one of his recording sessions.

He used to visit Dakhineswar every Kali pujo and be a part of the pujo for the entire night with his brother. Such was his detachment from material life, that he often used to visit the cremation ground and used to cry by seeing the absurdity of life in this world.
